Biography |
|
Simon has been a South London circuit
DJ for some 5 years now playing at venues such as the
Two Brewers, Substation South, XXL and South Central (formerly
Dukes of Vauxhall). Simon attended the full course
of the DJ Academy Sub Bass school for DJs in 2004 and
perfected his mixing, and still has regular lessons with
Lisa German (DTPM, Heaven, Hed Kandi) for advanced tricks
and tips.
Simon's sound can best be described as 'fresh and funky vocal house' that ranges from underground tribal house, characterising his sets
at Heaven Gran Canaria (GC) to more uplifting funky nu nrg that he plays at his current weekly residency Funkylicious.
Internationally, being asked to DJ at Heaven (Gran Canaria) has been Simon's biggest project. This brand new sexy and sophisticated
club is ultimately bound to put Gran Canaria on the map as one of the world's greatest clubbing holiday destinations. After a series
of successful back to back sets with Jo Public in January 2004 Simon was asked to come back and headline the DJ line up for the Pride
festival week in Summer 2004. This included playing on the centre stage in the Yumbo centre on Sat 15th May for the main dance festival to
over 5,000 screaming clubbers!
Simon believes the most important thing when playing is that his sets must be fun, getting a crowd going by playing popular songs yet
versions people have never heard before such as his own remixes. Capturing the imagination of the dance floor by playing two songs at
once has become one of Simon's trademarks. Expect to hear songs you know well but exciting versions and mixes you've never heard
before!
Commenting on his style in a recent interview Simon responded
'…I suppose the forces that drive me were born from hearing the likes of Marc Andrews, Dorian and Tony de Vit every week some seven
years ago when I used to do the weekly Love Muscle, Trade & Sherbet cycle. It always amazed me how such new exciting sounds could be
born out of records everybody already knew…'
Current UK residencies include Funkylicious, Vanity, Metro Bar, Flames and Riverside Tavern.
Regular guest slots include Heaven (GC), Club Soho (Portsmouth), Comptons, The Edge Bar (Soho), and XXL.
Simon has also played at Crash, Soho Pride 2004, Pride at the Yumbo centre, GC (Centre Stage) 15th May 2004, Pride in the Park (Gaydar dance bar 2003)
Benjys, Bootcamp, Behind The Bikesheds, Colors, Catch 22, The Backstreet, First Destination, Sleaze, Imperial Gardens, Substation South,
The Sanctuary (Soho), Two Brewers and Bromptons.
Radio work includes working for Gaydar radio (Midnight shift, 12-1am Mon to Thurs).
Production work includes working with Alan X from the Rhythm Doctors as well as Andy Alder (D Bop) on the recent underground club hit
'You Give Good Love' by Johan and 'Smoke
Belch' by Sabres of Paradise. Simon has also worked with Andy on remixing Madonna, B52's, Modern Talking, Mike Oldfield's Tubular
Bells and Motiv8.
